Approximately 60% of boys and 80% of girls who are sexually victimized are abused by someone known to the child or the child’s family . Relatives, friends, baby-sitters, persons in positions of authority over the child, or persons who supervise children are more likely than strangers to commit a sexual assault. Spouses, boyfriends, girlfriends, and partners can and do sexually assault each other. Being in a relationship or marriage does not give either partner the right to sexual activity of any kind without mutual, positive, and on-going consent. One in four teenagers who are sexually active are infected with an STD.

Also known as sexually transmitted infections , STDs are extremely common, annually infecting hundreds of millions of people worldwide. STDs affect people of all ages, backgrounds, and sexual orientations. In the United States, approximately 20 million new cases occur each year. About half of all new cases occur in young people between the ages of 15 and 24, putting their overall health and reproductive health at risk.

This balance of bacteria creates an acidic environment within the vagina that helps protect it from infections or irritations. That said, the best way to clean the vagina is to rinse it in the shower with warm water and mild or unscented soap. There can be a risk for HIV or another blood-borne infection if the instruments used for piercing or tattooing either are not sterilized or disinfected between clients. Any instrument used to pierce or cut the skin should be used once and thrown away. They should show you what precautions they use, or don't get pierced or tattooed there.
